ABOUT US

"Adama" is an ancient Hebrew word for farm soil. It is from this word that "Adam," the Hebrew word for humankind comes. We have used this ancient word to name our farm because we believe that it points to all humanity’s connection to the soil of the earth. It is upon this soil that we are dependent for our life and if we forget that fact then nature harbors harsh penalties for us. Instead we hope that at our small, diverse livestock farm atop Petit Jean Mountain we can use farming practices that recognize our dependence upon the soil and all creation.

We raise a variety of animals including chickens for eggs and meat, pigs, sheep and cattle. We are one of the only breeders in the world for a rare and wonderful pig called the Gloucester Old Spot pig. The Gloucester Old Spot is regarded by many to produce the best pork in the world.

We also breed Katahdin Hair Sheep, another heritage breed animal that also has wonderful flavor. When reviewing our Katahdin lamb in the New York Times Marian Burros said that "this rare breed has wonderful flavor that doesn’t overwhelm."

Our chickens are raised on pasture and given plenty of access to green grass. This results in wonderful, full flavored eggs that are beyond comparison with the pallid grocery store offerings.

Our cattle are 100% grass fed. They are a Charolais-Angus cross that delivers wonderfully flavored lean beef.

We hope that through these products we can offer our customers a return to the fresh, delicious food that is no longer available in grocery stores.
