Are your products "organic?"

Technically no. A few years ago the federal government began regulating organic agriculture to the advantage of large multinational corporations. Many small producers were priced out of the process or refused to let their movement be co-opted by the very corporate agriculture that "organic" farming was meant to oppose. However we do use many of the traditional organic methods-no pesticides, steroids, or antibiotics in our meat animals. We have an open farm policy that allows our customers to come and see for themselves how we raise our animals. You won’t find a better way to insure the quality of a farm from the USDA.

Do you use antibiotics on your animals?

The concern about antibiotics in agriculture comes mostly from their overuse in industrial agriculture. Industrial farms feed cattle, swine and poultry antibiotics as a matter of routine even when the animals are not ill. We think this practice is bad management and shows the insanity of the industrial system. However it is a bit of an overreaction to say that we should use no antibiotics in our farming. On the rare occasion that an animal is ill we will certainly treat them with the best method we can to get them back to health. If that method requires the use of an antibiotic we will use one. But we do not sell our customers the meat of animals that have been treated with antibiotics within the last two months of their life. We want to insure that all of our animals have no trace of antibiotics in their system before they enter the food chain.

Are your animals pasture raised?

Yes. All of our animals are able to range freely. We keep our sheep, cattle and chickens on grassland pasture. Our pigs prefer the forests where they can root for bugs and stay cool in the summer so we keep our pigs in forested areas where they can most easily express their pigness.

Can we buy a whole animal?

Yes. We are glad to sell whole, half and quarter animals. If you are interested in buying a whole animal please contact us.
